The Masqueraded Charities

I am lost without my power of will
My visions, my dreams, my beliefs, they exist
But hide in dark corners, silent and still;
I need their assurance, their essence I’ve missed

I am lost among a gathering of strangers
A menagerie of faces blandly identical
Disguising and posing a lingering danger
In plain view displaying Pandora’s receptacle

I am lost between the familiar stares
Gazes that bear the mark of rejection
Self-serving, complacent, those colours they wear
Hiding behind their masks of projection

I am lost within the smiles of pretension
Rehearsed through the ages for perfect deception
The kiss of the serpent I welcome with tension
Absolving the Judas that lies in dejection

I am lost in the midst of sinister parties
Individually devious – together disastrous –
In twisted fiestas of masqueraded charities
Celebrated agony combines with the monstrous

I am lost amidst a collection of memories
An image montage from the reel of the mind
Unfolding, surreal, I feel that these reveries
Are playbacks of comfort my heart seeks to find

I was lost without my power to will
My visions, my dreams, my beliefs were deceased
They died in dark corners, silently still,
But came back to life and still they exist
