Singleton Freedom

Posted: Wednesday, September 24, 2003
Word Count: 216
Summary: Dedicated to my fabulous girlfriends.

A knarled leafless tree
Starkly protruding from
A hostile landscape of blackness

************

Avoiding the truth
Consistently, stubbornly.
Pitifully begging myself
For just one more chance
Upon the back of
Years of chances.

Pathetic.

Get real girlfriend.
Time to face
The ugly brick wall.
Accept the futility.
No way out.
Gotta walk out.
With it, the final acceptance.
Of welcoming blackness.

************

The shock of
Unexpected awakening
Bathed in light
Recovering rainbowed sight
Breathless, delirious delight

Things are gonna change round here
Big time.
I’m fed up playing
By everyone else’s rules
Now, I make up my own:
No rules
Except one golden one…
You don’t hurt anyone.

I go where I want
When I want
Take off on an adventure
Accounting to no-one
No notice required.

I can dress
Without being called a slut

I can speak
Without being rebuffed

I can be with who I want
Without accusation

I can live every day
Without vain hope of proposal

I can walk in the light
Without fear of darkness

I neither know nor care
Where I’m going
But I know who I am.
And my happiness
Is not dependent
Upon another.

And, whatever happens
Is fine by me
Cos I hear the world’s beat
As I follow my funky path
Dancing to my own tune.
