A Moment Of Panic

In the Planning Department within the Town Hall
the Environment Team stood aghast,
for some young, over-zealous Youth Training Scheme fool,
had discovered a bare patch of grass!

He was browsing the Ordnance Survey Town Map
and enquired with innocent charm,
“What is meant by this strange looking little white gap?
And what do they mean by a ‘Farm’?”

“Oh my God! It’s a spot that has been overlooked
in the District Plan Local Reviews –
The Planning Department’s to secrecy sworn,
and no one’s to contact ‘The News’

For the land must be zoned ‘residential’ post haste,
and this dreadful old farm be at once laid to waste”
Then, amid the confusion – a cry of relief,
as the Local Plan Officer said to his Chief,

“There’s no need to worry, Sir – our sharp young man,
it transpires was searching through out-dated plans,
and the site that was causing inordinate worries,
has long been the out-of-town mega-store, Currys!”
