Sequinned slippers poking out
From layers of tulle and satin
She rustled slowly up the aisle
The choir trilled on in Latin
A lovely bride! She’d cost enough
A princess from the gutter
A diamond cut from bit of rough
My heart was all a flutter
The lamb was quaking in delight
He shook down to his shoes
Much like my tremors and my fright
When I heard their good news
She held his shaking hand and look!
That touch gave him some calm
The Preacher lifted up his book
They stood there arm in arm
I do, said she, and slipped the noose
My poor son led away
She flashed me her whore’s smile to prove
This was her victory day
