Read these thoughts, have fun, wander round
I've found these memories to explore
Places from childhood from youth and middle age
a truth in every line upon the page
and… see what you find
Monday:
In the park
On the slide, the roundabout, the swings
play pretend
stay all day till it gets dark
we can fly with wings
lie on our backs
look at the sky
a game of hide and seek
grazed knee kissed better
birthday treats
and… time to write a ‘thank you’ letter
Tuesday:
Carve our initials in the bark
Go to the woods, be Robin Hood
hoot like owls
never let emotions show
pretend not to be in love
and… never let the other know
Wednesday:
Drive go-carts, dodgems
chew gum share a joke
and a Coke with a chum
coconut mat imprint on your bum
come down in twos
on the helter-skelter
later in the shelter we share a secret kiss
and… hug a mate
Thursday:
A beach, rocks on the shore
children play
Gulls, seaweed, sand
Home-toasted muffins by the fire
Outstretched legs on the rug,
A country town, a shop for tiny mites,
Recapture mysteries
and… share delights once more
Friday:
In hills we walk
woodsmoke in a village pub,
there after lunch a fight
exchange a hug for a silent stare
and… separate
Saturday:
Nooks and crannies, corners, alleys
Diversions and TV
find places left
to lose ourselves inside
and… hide away
Sunday:
Nothing to reveal, no words to speak
life lasted but a week
What’s left…
Memories and thoughts
a look, a half remembered glance
pages from a history book
torn apart
You read my mind
we reach the end too soon
and… now depart
