Happy Hour.

5.30pm - feeding time at the zoo -
Pay for 1 beer and you’ll really get 2!
The primates soon chortle with intoxicated glee
Truly over-excited at their cut-price frenzy.
They yap and they babble - all of it hot air;
No meaning or feeling or substance is there.
The topics are arbitrary - just shades of trash
All part and parcel of ‘out on the lash’.
But when A Brother was banished you vowed ne’er to return -
A matter of principal - the bar it should burn!
You chose to drink elsewhere for all of a day;
Your Happy Juice was far more expensive that way.
Yes, you swallowed your ethics as you guzzle your beer;
Quickly and cheaply, urged on by fear -
The fear that your lives have amounted to nought;
You’ll never be the men that once you had thought.
So carry on slurping, pretend that it’s fun -
‘Life’s far too short…’ when all’s said and done.
Why search for meaning when a Good Time will do?
You may think me dull, but I’m glad I’m not you.
