You read me Thom Gunn
On a bed in Tufnel Park
I hardly knew you then

The poem was bleak
And sadly prophetic
Of how our lives would be

We made love hard and fast
In those days
You were un-skilled
But quick of hand
I wore my guilt like a badge
And left quietly
Losing myself in Kentish Town

The journey home
Was difficult that day
I thought up excuses
And re-applied lipstick
But I always knew he knew
