She nuzzled comfortably
in the warm lap
glancing up entrusting
into the eyes of the gods.

Reflecting, it could be said
she spent recklessly
but she gave without reserve
to those she knew and loved
those who knew and loved.

Sense of brevity became acute -
the keeness of time
ever prickling the hairs lifting
involuntarily down her spine.

Awareness became lifeblood -
a ceaseless adrenaline flow
anchored by focus of need of material mandate
and being palatable to society -
those steady forces that provide
the mainstay of tonal survival.

A farcical facade
that, nevertheless,
remains foolproof.
