Clouded by the large quantities of alcohol consumed, Lucy's brain thumped against her skull, adding to her frustrations. Since losing her job, misfortune chipped away at her soul, destroying what little remained of her miserable life until it formed the unfixable state it had become. After mixing with the wrong crowd, her parents disowned her and evicted her from the family home before the shame of her dirty secret reached judgmental neighbours. Having an unmarried mother for a daughter didn't fit into their plans.

Through her tears, Lucy recalled the last time she spoke to her dad. She'd arrived home from job hunting and he stood on the doorstep blocking her from entering the house.

"Lucy," he snarled, "you will never amount to anything being a pushover all your life. You're like those dirty sluts who prowl the night looking for men! The type that doesn't think twice about contraception or what the neighbours will think!" he bellowed.

"Bastard!"

"What did you just say?" he roared.

"Bastard!" She repeated, her anger fuelling her confidence.

"Now let me in! All I need are some clothes then I'll be gone forever!"

"Now look here young lady…"

"No! It's about time someone stood up to you. It's too late for mother, she's dead, but at least over there on the other side she's happy. Free from you!"

She remembered being slapped and landing on the floor in pain. Seeing blood. Nosebleed? Baby? Then nothing until she woke up in hospital.

Hey up, Inni! Long time no see! How's things?
I really enjoyed this.

Only crit would be that in the 4th para, I'd lose either 'he snarled' or 'he bellowed.'

That's it! Great stuff and good to see you again.

Nik.

Hi Nick!

I'm fine thanks! Hopefully this little challenge will help me to get back into the swing of things.

Thanks for commenting. You're right about the snarling! LOL I tell you what, it's late and I'm tired, but I'll pop back tomorrow and take a look at anything you've written in return.

I just wanted to tell you I've changed the story quite a bit from when I first posted it. And it's shorter! Let me know if you still like it - hope I haven't ruined it! Uggh!

Oops! I forgot to hightlight the prompts. Oh, well! Maybe I'll sort that out tomorrow! LOL

Hi Inni,
the end's very good! And it is a miniature story all in it's own right. If you wanted to knock out a couple of words to get it even more concentrated, I'd look at 'blocking her from entering the house', you could just say 'blocking her way' and get back four words.

Thanks Becca! And yes, I'll bear that in mind, when the whole 10 days are up I think we are allowed to go back and edit it, as a whole short story. That's when I'll take out as much as I can and really 'prefect it' - if you know what I mean! LOL

Thanks for the imput!

Hi Inni

Great flash challenge. Which site is this for? (if you don't mind me asking.)
If you want to save some words I would drop "consumed" from "alcohol consumed"
I think "slut" is powerful enough by itself so you could drop "dirty"
And you could drop "now" from "now let me in" as the extra word tends to take the force out of it.

There are vacancies in Flash I and Flash II! David evicts people from Flash I after 1 months activity but I think it is 3 months for Flash II.

Best

Thanks for your imput, Bill! Yes, it's nice to be back.

Thanks for the tip about the Flash group. I've applied to join, again. I Hope they're not too fed up with me - keep getting kicked out! LOL Because I wasn't using it, of course! I'm a good girl, I am!
